Hello MA Fine Art Digital

I have just started my MA Fine Art at Central Saint Martins, and I wanted to begin this blog at the same time as a place to think through what I am making, looking at and questioning along the way.

At the moment, my practice feels particularly open. Painting remains important to me, but increasingly I am drawn towards collage, textiles, installation, found materials and space.

Certain questions keep returning: reconstruction and renewal, memory and displacement, presence and absence, and the traces that events leave on people, objects and places. Coming from Ukraine and living away from it inevitably shapes the way I think about these things, although I am still discovering how directly or indirectly they enter the work.

What interests me now is not arriving at a clearer definition of my practice, but allowing it to become less certain. I want to understand why I keep returning to particular materials, gestures and images; what happens when I push them further; and what might emerge when I stop trying to resolve things too quickly.

Over the next two years, this blog will become a record of that process: work in progress, research, exhibitions, encounters, experiments, doubts, things that fail, and things that unexpectedly open another door.

I am not quite sure where it will lead, but that feels like a good place to start.
